A whole lot of money Response to The Hunger games: The game By that logic Battle Royal is also a rip-off of Lord of the Flies. Lord of the Flies-from my knowledge-was the first to take on the whole, "Child fighting child" scenario. Also, i read the book and watched the movie, it wasn't that bad. It just depends on what you're in to. It's just a matter of taste, really.

Lord of the Flies isn't the same, it's just kids trying to survive with no rules. Battle Royale is a bunch of teenagers forced to kill eachother with weapons. Hunger games definitely doesn't come close to Battle Royale the book. It's plagiarism. I remember hearing they were planning a new Battle Royale film, but after Hunger Games became so popular they decided against it seeing as most people would dismiss BR as a ripoff.

There are stories with similar concepts made in the past, but is there anything that is really like battle royale, in that it features a group of people forced to kill eachother, rather than a group of protagonists or a protagonist just being chased by the antagonists?

The naked prey or deadliest game sure don't fit that description, neither does the running man which is also often brought up in these conversations. The similarities between Battle Royale and hunger games are far more prominent than the similarities that Battle Royale has with any earlier works as far as I know, to the point where I would have thought Hunger games to be a Battle Royale remake if i didn't know better.

I'm the lightbringer. I'm the fucking universe! But none are as obvious as Hunger Games. BR and Hunger Games both take place in a dystopia where a massive metropolis controls the rest of the country, and randomly selects teenagers to battle to the death in an open but controlled arena.

To be fair though, it's not like Battle Royale is the indisputable champion of perfection and rainbows. Hunger Games definitely has more relatable and thought out characters, for example. The criticism is justified but people blow it out of proportion when it's not a big deal at all.
