I admit, the colors look a tad faded at times, but aside from that, this transfer is excellent, especially given the age of the film and how worn some previous editions have looked. So yes, some minor flaws can be found here, but all things considered, this is a top notch visual presentation from Artisan. I was quite pleased with this new treatment, as I noticed a cleaner source print from the opening scenes, which means the rest of the elements are able to come through unhampered.

The image here is sharper than ever and provides terrific detail levels, Artisan has delivered the goods here. I found colors to be natural and bright, flesh tones were natural, and black levels were dead on, no problems in any of those areas. In short, Artisan has given us the best looking home video edition to date. Rambo III is presented in a 2. As this is a most recent of the series, it looks better than the others, but as I mentioned above, all three films look excellent here.

The image here is clean and quite sharp, thanks to a great source print and flawless authoring, as to avoid compression flaws, digital noise, and other hiccups.

The colors come through in bright, bold fashion, the flesh tones seem normal throughout, and black levels are refined and well balanced. Not much else we could want here, as the film has never looked this good on home video. The included Dolby Digital 5. This is great news of course, since these movies are loaded with explosions, gun battles, and lots of tense moments, so each film has a lot of potential in terms of audio, but previous tracks have been less than impressive.

Rambo III has the best overall sound, as it is the newest of the movies and is better able to take advantage of the new mixes, with much better directional use and stronger overall presence. The other two films sound very good, but the material is unable to be as active in some scenes, which lessens the audio impact, though it still comes through better than ever.

In a serious miscue, Lions Gate has removed the superb DTS audio options found on the previous release. The audio is still potent and effective, but the loss of these DTS tracks is sure to cut into the sales of this collection.

When the icon flashes, you can see maps, character profiles, weapons insight, and other such features. Not the best method to get this information across, but the concept is solid and for fans, this mode is worth a look. First Blood is home to the most new extras, including an audio commentary with star Sylvester Stallone.

He talks at length about how he approached the project, with a focus on how he prepared to bring John Rambo to life. Stallone also discusses other production details, but silence is common in those moments, for sure.

You can also watch a few deleted scenes, including the never before seen alternate ending, which fans have wanted for some time. Cosmatos gives a technical slant to his session, such as production snags, the problems of location shoots, and he even details some of the special effects work, which was cool to hear.

I think Cosmatos offers a lot of information here and is personable also, so the track never becomes dull in the least. Although MacDonald is candid and provides a lot of information, he seems to take the film too seriously, as if it has no real flaws and the battle scenes are realistic. I think this is rather humorous, but it would have been nice to hear some honest comments about the criticism, although I doubt MacDonald could have defended most of the flaws, to be honest.

You can also check out some deleted scenes. I was disappointed to see so many excellent supplements left off this collection and in the end, the previous box set is much more ultimate than this one.
