Sony ebook reader prs 505

I put it in charge via USB and, as it was not used for long time the USB connection screen did not come up but the red light switched on. After a while the USB connection screen came up as expected. In the morning I found the reader off with the ghost of the reader starting page on the screen. No lights were on. I repeated the process a couple of time getting all the time the same result. I even tried some soft reset with non result.

Do you think that if I buy an external charger it would be possible to read with the reader connected to the plug? Attached Thumbnails. When you've tried to charge your reader with your computer, would your computer go into sleep mode? If this is the case, the computer won't charge the reader, and in fact it could actually drain the battery. I think a wall charger might do the trick for both charging it and you'd probably be able to read on it while it was connected. You probably already know this--no need to buy the charger made for the reader Hope you can get your up and running!

Thanks dordale, the pc I connected the PRS is always active and plugged in. If it the PRS works plugged in, it would be enough for me. Anyone had a problem like mine? You cannot rely on the USB charge or on the over-optimistic battery state icon on your reader. You simply must get a wall charger. Since I got one, I've had not the slightest problem. Good luck. I was therefore surprised, but very pleased in July when Sony announced that it would be launching its latest eBook reader this side of the pond.

The Reader itself is finished in matte silver, with contrasting darker silver buttons and controls. With dimensions of x x 7. Sony has also thought hard about the usability of the Reader while in its sleeve, making sure that the device can be easily read when placed on a desk or table, without having to remove it from its sheath. Unlike an LCD screen, the display on the Reader is designed only to display a static image, much like a piece of paper.

So, if you like reading in the park with the sun shining down unusual in the UK I know , the Sony Reader will be a good companion. Running down the right hand side of the screen are ten buttons numbered from Not only are these buttons used for selecting options on corresponding lines in the Reader menus, but when reading a book, you can use them to jump to specific pages in the volume.

To the right of the number buttons, located on the bevelled edge of the device are two buttons which will turn the pages in a book forwards or backwards. There are more controls below the screen. On the left is another set of page turning buttons mounted on a circular rocker. On the right is a Menu button that, unsurprisingly brings up menu options, and will also jump back menu levels if pressed multiple times.

Along the bottom edge is a mini-USB port for hooking the Reader up to your computer and charging the device. For the latter Sony has partnered with Waterstones, which is probably the most recognised high street book shop in the UK. I tried searching, and didn't really see much discussion of this I've defragged my SD card, and did notice some improvement. Nothing miraculous or to write home about, but maybe a couple of minutes quicker.

I haven't defragged the reader, but I don't keep much on it. I had never thought about doing this. It seems very slightly better now it's been done.

Thanks for bringing it up. I hooked the Reader up to my computer, went to it as a drive in Windows Explorer, and then right-clicked on it. When it comes up, make sure you hit "Select Volume" and de-select all other disks but the reader. Then select 'Defrag Now'. It didn't take it very long to defrag. Dont defrag a flash disk like it is in the sony ebook reader.

I want to give a short explanation what fragmentation is and why it is pointless and even dangerous in such devices. Fragmentation simply means that data is spread in blocks all over the storage. Now this is a huge isse for a harddisk which has a mechanical head spinning over the disk having to read and write the data.

Every head move is time lost to the data reading. But in electronical devices with flash disks you dont have any mechanical part so defragmentation does not help at all, what you gather is a psychological placebo effect.
